That top image is the White House’s official Christmas card, featuring pet dog, Bo, relaxing in front of a fire place.

The bottom image is Fox’s official Christmas card, featuring two cartoon foxes roasting an NBC peacock over an open flame.

Yet Sarah Palin, speaking on Fox News & Commentary, thinks the White House card is “odd” and that it lacks the depiction of “American foundational values” like “family, faith and freedom.”

My Christmas wish is for these people to be visited by three ghosts who will show them that their mindless nitpicking, pointless obstructionism, and useless partisanship are killing this country.

Rick Perry’s campaign has realized that although they’ve disabled comments on the Strong video itself, all they can do is flag EVERY comment on their actual channel as spam. All of them. For hundreds of pages.

Dear Republicans

Dear Republicans,

I know this really great guy. He’s principal of a public elementary school. The kids absolutely adore him, and the school has never run better! He wants to start a project that he thinks will make the school and community much better, but some members of the community are simply flat-out refusing to let it happen. When I heard about the situation, I knew exactly who I should turn to— the Republicans of America.

I know that many of you are devoted, faithful Christians. Your faith is such a important part of your lives and families. Many of your traditions and values are based in Christianity. It’s such an integral part of your lives. That’s why you think it’s outrageous when people refuse to allow school-sponsored prayer in your children’s public schools. So many of you are simply outraged when others object to teachers leading daily Christian prayers or leading prayers at public school ceremonies like graduations. Why are they refusing your right to freedom of religion? Why are Christians prevented from practicing their faith? I know many of you have fought and continue to fight this terrible injustice. They are, in fact PUBLIC schools, and Christians are part of the PUBLIC! Who could possibly have a good reason for being against public school-sponsored prayer?

Your conviction on this issue is why I bring my problem about prayer in public schools to you. My friend the principal really thinks that instituting a few daily prayer times at the school would be a great, positive change in the community. It would bring so many students together in faith and reflection. How could that possibly be bad? I’m sure you agree.

Thanks so much in advance for helping my friend the principal implement mandatory Muslim prayers in his public school. This is exactly why I love the Republican Party.

Sincerely,

An American

Jon Stewart for the win, as usual.

Dear Rick Perry

Dear Rick Perry,

Hello! How are you? I know you must be very busy with your campaign. Stressful, huh? Since you’re so busy, I’m sure you’ve probably had to stop by a grocery store or drug store a couple of times to pick up a few last-minute items, right? Have you been to a Walgreens lately? To your local supermarket? Wal-mart? Target? Or, perhaps not. Perhaps you are just so very busy. Well, at least, then you’ve driven around a few American neighborhoods? Of course you have. Well, as a matter of fact, so have I! So I’m sure we probably saw a lot of similar things there. Let me describe what I saw.

Tons and tons of tinsel and holly, Santas on every corner, red and green decorations, reindeer, Christmas lights, candycanes, Christmas-themed wrapping paper, rows upon rows of Christmas cards, Christmas music, Nativity scenes, Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes, ornaments, angels— the list goes on and on. It was great. Very festive! I love seeing the Christmas spirit, don’t you? I’m sure you do, since you are such a devoted Christian.

But wait— so strange. Have you not seen these things? Because, in your ad, you mentioned that our children can’t openly celebrate Christmas. What a strange thing to say. Have you just ignored all of the Christmas decorations in nearly every grocery store, drug store, neighborhood, and mall across America? That’s strange. Seeing as you are so faithful, it would seem like you’d notice all these signs of Christmas.

So what then? How, exactly, is this not celebrating Christmas openly? Let’s consider “openly” to mean a public act. Public is defined as “exposed to general view.” So, I consider decking your house out in lights and having a Christmas tree shining in the window a public act. I consider playing Christmas music in stores a public act. I consider selling and buying Christmas decorations a public act. I consider having children line up to sit on Santa’s lap in the mall a public act.

So, what was it you said again? That our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas? Well, everywhere I turn I see people doing just that— openly celebrating Christmas. If you don’t see it, perhaps you are either oblivious to American life and culture or a liar who wishes to exploit people’s fears in order to make personal gains.

Neither of those is very desirable in a candidate for President, don’t you think?

Sincerely,

An American
